Our Story & Values

Why “Bridgeheight”?

A senior living alone, a family in a new country, a teenager searching for direction — they can live on the same street and never meet. Bridgeheight was founded as a non-profit to change that.

We are not a seniors-only club, a settlement agency, or a youth centre. We are deliberately all three — because a community is strongest when generations and cultures learn from each other.

1
Welcome without conditionsEvery background, language, faith, and age is respected here.
2
Practical help, human firstForms and services matter — but being known by name matters more.
3
Everyone has something to giveSeniors mentor. Newcomers share culture. Youth bring energy. Nobody is only a “client.”
4
Small, regular, reliableBelonging grows from showing up — week after week, not just once.

Midday

Learn & practice

Conversation Café, settlement guidance, and workshops — practical skills taught patiently, at a human pace.

Afternoon

Move & mentor

Wellness walks, homework support, and youth mentorship — fresh air for seniors, focus time for students.

Evening / Weekend

Gather & celebrate

Community Kitchen, cultural sharing, and Family Days — the moments people talk about all week.

Questions

Good to know

Is Bridgeheight a non-profit?

Yes. Bridgeheight Services Society is a non-profit society in British Columbia, run for the community. Support and donations go to our programs for seniors, newcomers, and youth — not to profit.

I’m new to Canada. Where do I start?

Call (604) 653-8122 and ask for the Welcome & Settlement Circle. We’ll listen first, then help with orientation, English conversation practice, and connections to settlement and community services.

I don’t speak much English yet. Can I still come?

Yes — please come. Conversation Café is designed for every level, and feeling welcome should never depend on perfect English. Call us and we’ll do our best to help you feel understood.

What do seniors’ programs involve?

Friendly visits and check-in calls, social afternoons, gentle wellness walks, and intergenerational activities with youth and families. Come for one activity first and see how it feels.

What ages are youth programs for?

Youth and young adults — including students who want mentorship, homework support, leadership experience, or volunteer service hours. Call us and we’ll match you to the right activity for your age and goals.

Does it cost anything to take part?

We work hard to keep community programs welcoming and affordable, supported by volunteers and donations. Call (604) 653-8122 for details on the program you’re interested in.

Can I bring my parent, child, or friend?

Absolutely — families are part of what makes Bridgeheight special. Just let us know when you call so we can plan space, food, and activities for everyone.

How do I volunteer, partner, or donate?

One call does it: (604) 653-8122. Tell us how you’d like to help and we’ll walk you through the simplest next step.
